If you are like most parents who watch the news or read family oriented magazines, you have likely come across scores of reports chronicling the rise in obesity among children. There truly can be cause for alarm since so many health and self-esteem issues derive from this problem.

I know you are likely asking the same question so many other parents ask. Is there a solution to this dilemma? Yes, and it comes in the form of team sports such as soccer, football, basketball, and baseball among others. Once your child takes pride in playing, you will see a literal snowball effect of positive benefits and changes that can help your child all through life.

No, I am not making any exaggerations! It is well documented that kids that are involved with team sports are able to achieve many great things in life. Among the reasons is because it helps them avoid the common problematic activities which can limit them.

As a parent, you probably realize that your young one is spending an inordinate amount of time playing computer games or watching television. In our consumer electronics world, a large part of kid’s social fabric revolves around these leisure time pursuits. Such pursuits become sincerely problematic when a young one becomes too focused on what is hobby that promotes an unhealthy and somewhat sluggish lifestyle.

And if your kids are not all that active, remind them of this quote: “If you have health, you probably will be happy, and if you have health and happiness, you have all the wealth you need, even if it is not all you want.” – Elbert Hubbard

Through becoming involved with team sports, a kid gets away from these lazy hobbies and starts becoming more active. As soon as he or she becomes more active, a great deal of positive health benefits is gained since team sports provide the perfect fun vehicle for gaining regular exercise.
